HRDC'S YOUTH DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM

The Youth Development Program offers a variety of youth centered services and activities in Gallatin, Park and Meagher counties. These services and activities are designed to meet the challenges of adolescence and young adulthood. Interagency networking helps build additional support systems to meet more specific individual needs.

Work Force Investment Act (WIA)/Youth Employment Training
The goal of the WIA program is to provide eligible young people, who are looking for academic and employment success, effective and comprehensive activities such as counseling, referrals, mentoring, supportive services, training, job placement, life skills and follow-up services. Participants are placed in work experiences that complement their interest and educational goals. You'll find WIA participants throughout our area working, learning and contributing to our community.

Employment Training helps young people develop employment skills. Staff work closely with participants and explore different careers, learn how to use resources to search for employment, prepare a resume, develop important interview techniques, enhance their computer skills and most importantly utilize their previous work experiences.

"The Youth Employment Program has given me the tools and experience I need to achieve my goals. The next stop is college. I could not have done it without them!"

Life Skills
The transition from home to independence is not always easy. Young people face tough decisions, and challenges that come from living on their own. Balancing work, friends, school, family, possibly children and of course money can be overwhelming. Recognizing these potential barriers, the Youth Development program offers classes simply called 'Life Skills'. The topics for Life Skills classes are directed by the participants when ever possible. Topics covered have included, setting educational goals, parenting skill, stress management, peer support, budgeting and financial planning, counseling, and a variety of health care topics.

"HRDC's Youth Development staff have given me the support and confidence I need to have a successful future. Thank you!"
