Assistance Program | Income
Eligibility
The program pays benefits of fixed amounts based on household
income and resources. An additional benefit is available to
eligible households having a high energy burden. Eligibility
is based on annual income and resources and the number of
household members. Payments towards the heating bills are
made directly to the heat source vendor. Homeowners and renters
are both eligible.

households in an energy related emergency. Energy Share funds
are donated dollars that can be loaned or granted to a household
depending on income criteria. Some examples of energy emergencies
are: shut-off notice pending from the power company, inability
to secure housing due to past debt, repair or replacement
of furnaces and damages that affect the ability to heat the
home. All funds are distributed by an Energy Share Board of
Directors and are limited. Funds are loaned without interest. www.energysharemt.com
is designed to
assist low-income households reduce their heating bills by
providing home energy efficiency services. The program operates
year round. After a household is determined eligible HRDC's
weatherization staff schedule an energy inspection of the
home. The inspection determines the energy and health and
safety concerns of the home and the inspector then completes
a job write up listing recommendations. A contractor is hired
to complete the work at no cost to the occupants. Typical
work completed includes air sealing, attic and/or side wall
insulation, weatherstripping, and minor repairs associated
with the weatherization work. Heating system work or replacement
may also be completed. Qualification is based on LIEAP Program
eligibility. Due to limited funding
priority points are given to households with members who are
elderly, handicapped or who have children under 7. Tenants
(with landlord approval) as well as homeowners are eligible
for weatherization.
